Rare species in the Dutch North Sea region (Nijssen & de Groot, 1987, p. 64). During the last decades R. microocellata has not been recorded anymore and is now considered to be no longer part of the Dutch fauna (Nijssen, 2001, p. 42). Egg-capsules of R. microocellata rarely wash ashore on the Dutch coast (Bor, 1998, p. 33).
